The Aleksandrinsky Theater, named in honor of Nikolay I`s wife - Aleksandra Fedorovna, is one of the most famous Russian dramatic theaters. The building that holds the theatre was designed and built under the architectural supervision of Rossi. The classics are performed in this theater and its history is connected with Meyerhold, Komissarzhevskaya and Freyndlih to name a few famous names. We suggest that you see the classical production of "Three Sisters" by Chekhov, and "Wedding" by Gogol. For an unusual performance, see "Dangerous Liasons".

How to get there
The theatre is located on Nevsky Prospect; therefore, from metro Gostiny Dvor make a right on Nevsky Prospect. After walking on Nevsky for a few minutes you will see a monument to Catherine the Great, which is also on Ostrovskvy Ploshchad. The theater is just behind her (you probably won´t miss it!)

The Lensovet Theater`s history is connected with the talented Soviet director Igor Vladimirov.
Vladimirov gathered and taught many famous Russian artists during the Soviet era. Here the careers of Alisa Freyndlih, Sergey Migicko, Mihail Boyarsky and Larisa Luppian began.
Vladimirov`s plays are still performed in the theater to this day. There is a French vaudeville play by Letraz - "Baby", an Italian black comedy by Nicolai - "Love Until Death" and an interesting tragic-comedy - "Players". Until his death in 2006, the Lensovet Theatre was managed by famous director Vladislav Pazi.

The Maly Drama Theatre de l`Europe is one of the most fashionable and contemporary theaters in the city. Lev Dodin, the art director of Maly Drama Theater (MDT), is well-known in the theater community. The theater enjoys experimenting and quite often performs unique plays. MDT has won many awards for its outstanding performances: their performance of Ludmila Ulickaya´s "Moscow`s Chorus", for example, won one of the coveted "Golden Mask" awards.

From metro Dostoevskaya turn right and walk along Vladimirsky Prospect to Grafsky (Графский) Pereulok. At the intersection turn to the left and walk along Grafsky to Ulitsa Rubinshteina. The theater is located on the corner.

The Youth Theatre on the Fontanka, located in the charming Ismailovsky Gardens, has been a favourite with St. Petersburg´s students and intelligentsia since it opened in 1980. It has had three directors, all of them distinguished in their own way. The current director is Semyon Slivak. The theater´s production of Bulgakov´s ´Days of the Turbins´, while a little strong on the slapstick, is strongly recommended, though it is generally agreed that most of the theater´s productions are worth seeing.
