Tracing Russia's Political History
St. Petersburg has loads of museums, one for everything imaginable, some more or less important than others. When visiting St. Petersburg it is essential that you see the major attractions, but I also think it's important to save a bit of time to venture out to some of the city's other great, although less known to tourists, museums.
The Political HIstory Museum is one such museum that is worth seeing. Even if you're not interested a great deal in the political history of Russia, as it might sound a bit boring, but I know you'll be interested by all the amazing events that have taken place in the history of Russia, and the collection that the musuem posses tells the story perfectly.
The building itself has an interesting history, from being the mansion of Mathilda Kshesinskaya, the prima ballerina at the Mariinsky Theatre before the revolution, then as the Bolshevik headquarters in the city.
Remember to visit some of the less popular museums when visiting St. Petersburg, or any city, it's easy to get lost in the Hermitage, and rightfully so, but save some time and energy for the other gems of the city, such as the insightful political history museum.
