New Metro Station in St. Petersburg
The Admiralteiskaya metro station finally opened!
Just before the new year work was finished on the Admiralteiskaya metro station, which held it's grand opening on Dec. 28th. The opening of the new station, located on the corner of Malaya Morskaya Ulitsa and Kirpichny Pereulok, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak and St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko.
The new station has been under construction on and off for quite some time now, due to a lack of funds and some disagreement about the location of the exit. With the completion of the Admiraltiskaya station, the St. Petersburg metro system now holds the deepest station in Russia, and the 2nd deepest in the world, the deepest being in Kiev, Ukraine.
The metro construction company and city officials are planning a number of stations and projects for the 2025 plan of the St. Petersburg Metro. Currently two more stations on the Purple Line (#5) are scheduled to open in 2012.
