 From Russia with Love: A St. Petersburg Wedding!
If you're looking for an exotic place to secretly elope with your loved one, now it's possible to get married within 72 hours in St. Petersburg!
The new law recently approved by the government of St. Petersbug is sure to give new meaning to the phrase "From Russia with Love."
In an attempt to boost toursim through more creative methods, foreign visistors will now be able to apply for a Russian marriage license in the city in just 72 hours.
However, the 72-hour marriage license isn't the only thing on the City Hall agenga; they have also announced plans for a more aggressive advertising campaign for the city, tax-free shopping for tourists, and the possibility of visa-free rail and air travel for foreign visitors.
Registering for a marriage normally takes a minimum of one month in Russia following submission of an application, however during the summer months many of Russia's registry offices are overwhelmed with applications, often forcing couples to wait up to three months for their applications to be approved.
Unfortunately for local Russians, the new law only applies to foreigners, Russians seeking a marriage license will still have to wait the one month minimum.
City Hall hopes that the new initiatives will attract up to 3 million more visitors each year. Currently St. Petersburg recieves around 5 million tourists per year.
So if you're thinking about running off and getting married, keep St. Petersburg in your mind!
